Kig i bogen

Bagsidetekst
This textbook of removable prosthodontics aims to present the Scandinavian treatment approach, which gives biology and function priority over the more technical aspects favoured by others. The Scandinavian approach relies on periodontal and clinical prosthodontic research, which has demonstrated that the critical factor in tooth and abutment survival is good periodontal health by plaque control, without attempting to reduce or distribute mechanical loading. Relevant to tooth-borne prostheses, this approach is based on scientific evidence, which is mostly lacking in regard to complete dentures. The undocumented use of time-consuming and costly procedures with complicated face bows, articulators and occlusal schemes are therefore rejected in Scandinavia in favour of simpler methods. Accordingly, treatment with complete dentures is more an art than a science. The book includes basic principles and clinical procedures for both complete and partial removable dentures. The advent of implants and the reduced prevalence of edentulousness have not altered significantly the need for removable dentures. Implants will not be able to solve all problems associated with missing teeth, and the great majority of patients must still be treated with removable dentures. The editors and authors of Textbook of Removable Prosthodontics – the Scandinavian Approach represent several universities and departments of dentistry in Scandinavia, and the book covers the curriculum for dental students in all of Scandinavia. The book also offers experienced dentists an opportunity to bring their knowledge and practice up to date.
The aim of this book is to present the Scandinavian treatment philosophy of removable prosthodontics.

In the Scandinavian approach to removable prothodontics, biology and function have priority over the more technical approach favoured by others. The Scandinavian treatment philosophy is largely based on periodontal and clinical prosthodontic research, which has demonstrated that the critical factor in tooth and abutment survival is establishing and maintaining good periodontal health by plaque control, not by trying to reduce or distribute widely mechanical loading. Textbook of Removable Prosthodontics covers the need for dental students to acquire adequate knowledge and clinical skills within this field.
